Adjunct Professor Civil Engineering Labs

Position Summary:
The Adjunct Professor for CE341A:
Soil Mechanics Laboratory will deliver hands-on laboratory instruction covering fundamental geotechnical testing procedures, including soil classification, compaction, permeability, consolidation, and shear strength testing, in accordance with standard ASTM protocols. Responsibilities include preparing and supervising laboratory sessions, ensuring proper use and maintenance of laboratory equipment, enforcing safety procedures, grading lab reports and assignments, and providing students with practical experience that complements the theoretical content of the companion lecture course.
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage undergraduate students in a laboratory setting are essential.
- Conduct and supervise civil engineering laboratory sessions in accordance with approved course syllabi, laboratory procedures, and departmental standards.
- Provide instruction and demonstrations of laboratory experiments, testing methods, instrumentation, and engineering procedures relevant to the assigned course.
- Prepare and organize laboratory activities, including experiments, equipment, materials, samples, and instructional resources prior to each laboratory session.
- Demonstrate proper use of laboratory equipment and instrumentation, ensuring students understand appropriate operating procedures and testing techniques.

Qualification:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent closely related discipline from an accredited institution. - Teaching
Experience:
Demonstrated experience teaching, instructing, or assisting with undergraduate civil engineering courses or laboratory sessions. - Technical Knowledge:
Working knowledge of fundamental civil engineering principles relevant to the laboratory, including appropriate laboratory methods, testing procedures, equipment, and safety practices. - Laboratory
Experience:
Practical experience with civil engineering laboratory equipment, instrumentation, experimental procedures, and data collection/analysis relevant to the course. - Safety:
Knowledge of and ability to enforce laboratory health and safety procedures, including proper handling and use of equipment and materials. - Communication
Skills:
Ability to clearly explain technical concepts, laboratory procedures, and experimental results to undergraduate students. - Student Support:
Ability to supervise students during laboratory activities, answer technical questions, and provide appropriate instructional guidance. - Professional
Qualifications:
Engineering-related professional, industry, research, or laboratory experience is desirable and may be considered an additional qualification.
- $2,668 per contact hour
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Range:Period Activity Grade

This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
