Job Description - Operations Apprentice II (NUC00E5)
Job Description POSITION SUMMARY
- The Operations Apprentice I primary responsibility is to qualify in Operator fundamentals, safety tagger and fire brigade.
- The Operations Apprentice II primary responsibility is to learn building watch systems duties and responsibilities.
- The Operations Apprentice III primary responsibility is to qualify on at least one watch station.
- Responsible for carrying out the normal shift routine and ensure all tests, logs and readings are performed or taken as appropriated.
- Ensure all maintenance and operational activities are conducted in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Adhere to all plant operational, administrative and emergency procedures.
- Maintain general cleanliness of the assigned work area.
- Participate in the NSO Training program to obtain and maintain qualifications for all systems or tasks which the individual is or will be required to operate.
- Review all operating data in the assigned work area to assure safe operations.
- Effectively communicate plant related problems or events with representatives within Operations and from other departments.
- Serve as required by procedure for watch stations, fire brigade, safety tagger and Emergency Response Organization.
- Support the operations department in areas such as corrective actions, procedure maintenance, and technical input for daily and outage work schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervision/management.
Operations Apprentice II: This position requires a high school diploma or GED Equivalent and one or more of the following:
1) experience as Operations Apprentice I and Fundamentals and Safety Tagger qualifications,
2) Successful completion and honorable discharge from the Navy nuclear power program,
3) or An engineering/engineering technology/physical science Bachelors of Science degree including course work in the physical, mathematical, or engineering sciences from an accredited institution.
Operations Apprentice III: This position requires a high school diploma or GED Equivalent and one or more of the following:
1) experience as Operations Apprentice II with qualification in Fundamentals/Safety Tagger and 1 watch station, or
2) An engineering/engineering technology/physical science Bachelors of Science degree including course work in the physical, mathematical, or engineering sciences from an accredited institution and 3 years previous commercial nuclear power plant experience, or
3) previous commercial nuclear power plant experience (minimum 5 years) and qualification as a journeyman level operator equivalent. Option 3 will qualify for Intermediate NSO rate of pay.
- This position requires the ability to: read and interpret documents such as procedures, safety rules, pre-job briefs, radiation work permits, and mechanical, electrical, and logic drawings; write routine reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals; speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization; effectively present information and respond to questions from managers or members of other departments.
- This position requires the ability to: add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s; perform these operations using units of weight, measurement, volume and distance; add subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs;
calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; apply concepts of basic algebra, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. - This position requires the ability to: apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format; deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizations exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- These positions require the ability to pass vision requirements associated with company physicals as well as identify and distinguish colors.
