Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Resident Engineer – Tunnel Engineering/TBM to support one of the most iconic and consequential infrastructure initiatives in the United States – the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP).
We are working in partnership with Parsons and Mace as part of the MPA Delivery Partner team, selected by the Gateway Development Commission to deliver this transformative project. The HTP is a critical component of the broader Gateway Program – one of the most ambitious and impactful transportation initiatives in the nation – and is designed to strengthen mobility, enhance resiliency, and ensure the long‑term reliability of the Northeast Corridor.
The project encompasses the construction of a new, two‑track rail tunnel beneath the Hudson River, along with the full rehabilitation of the existing 113‑year‑old North River Tunnel. This vital infrastructure supports more than 200,000 daily passengers via Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT and serves as a backbone for economic activity and connectivity between New York and New Jersey.

Role Accountabilities- Participate in the development, execution, supervision, and coordination of all technical aspects, office and field engineering assignments including review of plans, schedules, contracts, procedures, and construction methods.
- Represent the Construction Management team during Daily Construction Meetings with the Contractor.
- Support Senior CM Staff with technical input.
- Manage oversight review of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) design, fabrication and operation during tunneling.
- Manage oversight review of detail design, fabrication, delivery and installation of precast concrete tunnel lining segments.
- Coordinate with the project team to ensure timely completion of tunneling works according to project specifications.
- Monitor tunneling progress, ground conditions and excavation parameters.
- Review geotechnical and structural monitoring data.
- Implement safety protocols and quality control measures to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Prepare progress reports, documentation and reports on TBM operations.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions to challenges encountered during tunneling operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
- 12+ years proven experience working with Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs).
- Tunneling experience, specifically in pressurized face TBM mining, precast concrete segmental lining and cross passage construction.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of safety standards, regulations and best practices in tunneling operations.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.

Arcadis offers benefits for full‑time and part‑time positions. These benefits include medical, dental and vision, EAP, 401K, STD, LTD, AD&DD, life insurance, paid parental leave, reward & recognition program and optional benefits including wellbeing benefits, adoption assistance and tuition reimbursement. We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $175,000 – $240,000.
Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
