Job Description
Our NYC Transit and Rail team is seeking a Transit & Rail Systems Engineer / Vehicle Integration Lead to support major rolling stock, CBTC, ATS, and related rail systems programs. Based in New York, this role will support transit vehicle procurements, vehicle‑infrastructure compatibility evaluations, systems integration, signaling and train control support, design review, testing and commissioning, technical coordination, and implementation planning across owners, suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
This position is intended for a candidate who can operate at a mid‑level to senior level with a blend of technical depth and project delivery capability. In addition to vehicle‑related assignments, the role will also support signaling and train‑control efforts such as CBTC/ATC/ATS technical reviews, owner‑side support, subsystem interface management, implementation coordination, and related system integration activities across vehicle and signaling scopes.
Key Responsibilities- Lead or support systems integration activities for transit vehicle and infrastructure programs, including interface management, compatibility assessments, and coordination with clients, manufacturers, signaling suppliers, and project teams.
- Perform and manage technical design reviews of vehicle, systems, signaling, and infrastructure submittals, drawings, calculations, and related documentation for transit and rail procurements, upgrades, or modernization programs.
- Support vehicle‑infrastructure and vehicle‑signaling interface engineering, including evaluation of design constraints, field conditions, conceptual design changes, and implementation impacts.
- Support signaling and train control assignments involving CBTC, ATC, ATS, related subsystems, training support, and owner‑side technical services for implementation and closeout activities.
- Facilitate coordination across owners, suppliers, planners, operations personnel, and internal multidisciplinary teams to build consensus and resolve technical issues.
- Help improve technical workflows, document control practices, and delivery processes for large, document‑intensive transit and signaling programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering;
Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Transportation, or similar disciplines. - 8+ years of relevant experience supporting transit, rail, rolling stock, signaling, bus, or transportation infrastructure programs at a mid‑level or senior engineering role.
- Experience in systems integration, vehicle‑interface engineering, transit vehicle or rail design review, signaling or train control support, testing and commissioning, fleet planning, or operational analysis.
- Ability to coordinate technical work across multiple disciplines, including vehicle, infrastructure, and signaling / train control stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to coordinate across clients, suppliers, and internal technical teams.
- Ability to manage multiple technical work streams, organize reviews, and provide clear design direction or technical recommendations.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
- Master’s degree in Transportation or related field.
- Experience with transit vehicle procurements, streetcar or rail vehicle programs, vehicle‑infrastructure compatibility, or transit systems implementation.
- Experience supporting signaling, train control, or owner‑side technical services for CBTC, ATS, ATC, train control modernization, or related rail systems work.
