Role Description
Arcadis is seeking a Senior Resident Engineer to support the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP), a critical component of the broader Gateway Program. The project involves constructing a two‑track rail tunnel beneath the Hudson River and rehabilitating the 113‑year‑old North River Tunnel to serve over 200,000 daily passengers via Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT.
Role Accountabilities- Oversee daily construction activities and resident engineering inspection responsibilities.
- Conduct technical reviews of construction plans, specifications, and project changes to ensure constructability and practicality.
- Ensure staff safety, regulatory compliance, permit adherence, and effective coordination with regulatory agencies.
- Monitor contractor performance, schedule adherence, and overall effectiveness.
- Influence contractors to meet project objectives related to cost, schedule, and quality standards.
- Administer the contractor payment process and recommend appropriate adjustments based on completed work.
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills to guide project progress, maintain safety standards, adhere to scheduling requirements, and facilitate meetings with contractors, clients, local agencies, and community stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and/or Construction Management, with coursework and experience in heavy civil and structural work that demonstrate knowledge of geotechnical principles, soil and rock mechanics and testing, and construction methods. A Master's degree in Civil Engineering is preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of related experience in construction contract administration, preferably in the northern New Jersey/NYC area.
- EIT (Engineer‑in‑Training) certification (a Professional Engineer registration in the State of New Jersey or ability to obtain PE registration is preferred).
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency with commercially available geotechnical design programs for deep and shallow foundations, excavation support systems, and slope stability analysis, such as LPILE, GROUP, FB‑Multi Pier, Slope/W, Seep/W, DeepEX, PLAXIS, and Settle3D.
- Familiarity with widely used geotechnical manuals and publications, as well as AASHTO, NJDOT, and Amtrak standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The salary range for this position is $195,000–$265,000.
