The Burlington County Engineer Department is seeking candidates for the entry level position of Civil Engineer Trainee in our Traffic Section
.
Candidates who apply for this position must have an affinity for transportation design, planning and analysis and an academic record that demonstrates satisfactory completion of coursework related to:
- Transportation Design, Planning, and Analysis
- Project Management
Candidates who have coursework in Intelligent Transportation Systems and Transportation Safety Systems preferred.
Civil Engineer Trainees work directly with experienced Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and project managers who build upon a candidate’s previous academic knowledge by exposing them to actual construction and design projects where their academic skills can be used to solve real-world problems.

Experience: Entry level Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong work ethic and a willingness to invest in themselves as evidenced by academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, public service and/or past work history. The position is subject to a 12-month working test period upon which successful candidates will be promoted to Assistant Engineer level with a commensurate increase in salary.
Candidates in possession of an E.I.T. certificate issued by the N.J. Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors will be given first preference. Candidates without EIT certification are expected to pursue and obtain their EIT certificate as part of an initial 12 month working test period. Candidates with prior civil engineering related work experience including Co‑Op’s or internships also preferred.
Education: Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university is required. Graduation/Completion of Degree by the end of the current semester is acceptable at the time of application.
Applicants who graduated from non-ABET accredited colleges or university must submit transcripts that have been evaluated by a recognized evaluation service as recommended by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors which can be found at:
