Position Summary
The Electrical Project Manager / Estimator is a hybrid role responsible for both preconstruction estimating and full‑cycle project management of electrical construction projects. This position plays a critical role in securing profitable work, ensuring accurate project pricing, and successfully executing projects from bid through closeout. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, cost estimating, and project execution, along with the ability to seamlessly transition between office‑based estimating and field‑based project management.
Key Responsibilities Estimating & Preconstruction- Review project plans, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate electrical estimates
- Perform quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, and equipment
- Solicit, evaluate, and level vendor and subcontractor quotes
- Develop detailed cost estimates, bid proposals, and scope clarifications
- Identify risks, gaps, and value engineering opportunities during the bidding phase
- Participate in bid reviews and assist in final pricing strategy
- Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information
- Manage all phases of awarded projects from kickoff through completion
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans
- Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely execution
- Monitor project progress, productivity, and quality standards
- Conduct project meetings and provide updates to internal and external stakeholders
- Track project costs, labor productivity, and profitability
- Manage budgets, forecasts, and cost controls
- Review and approve invoices, change orders, and purchase orders
- Prepare and price change orders and ensure proper documentation
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, engineers, and vendors
- Build and maintain strong client relationships
- Ensure clear communication and high levels of customer satisfaction
- Review contracts, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance
- Manage RFIs, submittals, and project documentation
- Ensure smooth handoff from estimating to project execution, maintaining scope and budget integrity
- Collaborate closely with estimating, field, and leadership teams
- Provide guidance and support to foremen and field staff
- Contribute to process improvements across estimating and project management functions
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in electrical construction, estimating, and/or project management
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications
- Proven experience managing projects and preparing estimates
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Proficiency in estimating software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
- Ability to work in both office and field environments
- Split between office‑based estimating and on‑site project management
- May require travel to job sites, pre‑bid meetings, and client locations
