We are seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to join our team based in one of our East coast offices (New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Washington DC, or Boston).
Responsibilities- Lead, review, and perform the electrical design of solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities, including site layout, medium voltage (MV) collection systems, distribution lines, and associated electrical studies.
- Conduct and review engineering calculations such as grounding/earthing studies, short-circuit analysis, cable ampacity sizing, load flow analysis, and AC/DC voltage drop calculations.
- Size and optimize DC cable routes for solar arrays, including string sizing, routing from modules to combiner boxes/disconnect switches, and cable tray/conduit planning.
- Develop and deliver detailed solar plant design packages, including DC/AC electrical single-line diagrams, cable schedules, equipment specifications, and construction-ready drawings.
- Perform energy production estimates, system performance modeling, and techno-economic evaluations.
- Support interconnection studies and protection coordination activities as needed.
- Provide technical leadership to junior engineers, including guidance, mentoring, review of work quality, and professional development support.
- Contribute to studies of front-of-the-meter and behind-the-meter microgrid facilities, including planning, design, and interconnection.
- Demonstrate willingness to expand capabilities into substation design, protection, and power system studies associated with utility-scale solar and BESS interconnections.
- Support proposal development, scope definition, and client communication as required.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering.
- At least 8 years of experience in the renewable power generation sector.
- Experience managing projects, interfacing with clients, and guiding junior staff work.
- Familiarity with industry-standard PV modeling software such as PVSyst (preferred) or equivalent.
- Strong preference for a PE license or eligibility to obtain a PE license across any state.
- Experience with grounding/earthing studies, short-circuit analysis, cable ampacity sizing, load flow analysis, and AC/DC voltage drop calculations.

CompensationThe good faith base salary hiring range for this job performed in New York is $140,850 to $175,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of New York will differ.
