Expected Salary range is $125,000 to $175,000 depending upon experience

Tutor Perini Corporation is seeking a Project Engineer for our Newark Air Train project site at Newark International Airport.

Summary

The Project Engineer supports the successful planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction projects, with a focus on transportation and infrastructure work including airports, Air Train systems, rail, transit, bridges, roadway, and utility projects. The Project Engineer works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, owners, consultants, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements.

This position is ideal for candidates with experience on large-scale public infrastructure projects. Experience working in active airport environments or on Air Train, rail, transit, or aviation-related construction projects is strongly preferred.

Job Description
  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with daily project administration and project controls.
  • Manage submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, change orders, and document control processes.
  • Coordinate with owners, engineers, designers, inspectors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Track project costs, quantities, productivity, and schedule performance.
  • Support procurement activities, including material tracking and subcontract administration.
  • Prepare and maintain project logs, reports, meeting minutes, and correspondence.
  • Review contract documents, specifications, and drawings to identify risks and ensure compliance.
  • Assist in developing construction work plans, sequencing, and logistical plans.
  • Participate in project scheduling efforts utilizing Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Support field operations through coordination of inspections, testing, surveys, and quality control activities.
  • Monitor project progress and help identify solutions to schedule or cost impacts.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety programs, site-specific safety requirements, and client standards.
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including punch lists, as-built documentation, and final turnover packages.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support project and business objectives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field required and 8 or more years of heavy civil construction experience required.
  • Experience on airport, Air Train, rail, transit, bridge, roadway, or other transportation infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Experience working on public-sector projects and familiarity with agency clients such as Port Authority, MTA, DOT, FAA, or similar transportation authorities. Working knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, and project controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Understanding of cost tracking, quantity reporting, and schedule management.
  • Airport terminal expansions, airside/landside infrastructure, or Air Train projects a plus.
  • Active airport construction environments requiring coordination with airport operations and multiple stakeholders a plus
  • Utility relocations, foundations, concrete, structural steel, guideways, stations, transportation systems, or transit facilities.
  • Experience with maintaining operations during construction and phased construction programs.
  • Knowledge of Primavera 6, Procore, Bluebeam, MS Office, AutoCAD, BIM/VDC Software
  • Ability to work effectively in both office and field settings.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
