Process Safety SME

Blackfield Associates are supporting a global leading pharamaceutical organisation in the seach for an Engineering Process Safety SME.

This position can be based in offices close to Indiana, Delaware, New Jersey & Philidelphia with a 50-50% onsite presence.

This position is to support a major, complex engineering and life sciences project through the Concept Design phase, with the potential to extend into subsequent project stages.

The successful candidate will act as the key engineering SHE point of contact across the project, working closely with project, engineering, design, construction and client teams to ensure that SHE objectives, requirements and deliverables are clearly defined, understood and effectively delivered.

This is a highly collaborative role requiring someone who can provide strong technical leadership, challenge effectively and ensure that SHE considerations are embedded throughout the design and project lifecycle.

• Establish and align project SHE objectives, goals and KPIs with key stakeholders.
• Act as the primary engineering SHE point of contact for the project team.
• Ensure project team members receive appropriate SHE training and onboarding.
• Work with local SHE and client representatives to incorporate site-specific experience and requirements into the design.
• Assess the SHE implications of design and project changes.
• Coordinate with construction SHE leadership on safe-to-start activities and pre-start-up safety review requirements.
• Support the selection of appropriate SHE study contractors.
• Work with designers to ensure SHE deliverables are produced on schedule and to the required quality standards.
• Coordinate the review, approval and close-out of SHE actions.
• Ensure SHE studies and their outcomes are effectively incorporated into the design.
• Participate in project development activities, design reviews and other relevant technical reviews.
• Ensure SHE reviews are updated following action close-out.
• Monitor progress against the engineering SHE delivery plan and schedule.
• Maintain and update the SHE delivery plan in response to project progress and findings.
• Provide SHE input into project reporting and stage/gate reviews.
• Provide input into mechanical completion, pre-start-up safety reviews and handover activities.
• Ensure effective transfer of SHE knowledge to the end user.
• Escalate significant SHE issues through the appropriate project management structure.
