Salary Range: $80,000 – $85,000

Position OverviewThe Senior Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the AVP of Finance in overseeing day-to-day financial and administrative operations. This individual will gain broad, hands‑on exposure to nonprofit financial management within a complex, performance‑based organization.
The role partners closely with senior leadership to support financial reporting, budgeting, treasury operations, payroll, benefits administration, and audit preparation. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a collaborative, mission‑driven environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage general ledger activity, including oversight of system integrations across revenue, payroll, and accounts payable platforms.
Oversee daily treasury operations, including cash monitoring, banking activity, reconciliations, and reporting.
Reconcile and report on earned revenue streams and contributed income.
Support preparation of monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Assist with the development of departmental budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
Perform account reconciliations and financial analyses to support operational decision‑making.
Coordinate employee benefits administration, including health insurance and retirement plans.
Process and supervise biweekly payroll for administrative staff and contract personnel.
Prepare required payroll‑related remittances, union dues, and benefit reports.
Partner with leadership to support the annual audit process and preparation of required tax filings.
Identify and implement workflow improvements to strengthen financial processes and internal controls.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered).
Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
Experience with general ledger management and account reconciliations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Experience in nonprofit accounting strongly preferred.
Familiarity with mid‑market accounting systems (Sage or similar platforms preferred).
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information.
Experience with cash management and reporting.
Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite (Monday–Wednesday), 2 days remote.
Current office location in Newark, NJ, with relocation to Jersey City, NJ anticipated in 2027.
Full‑time, Monday–Friday schedule.
