Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II for the Public Health Research Institute at the New Jersey Medical School.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, conducts research activities in microbiology within a specialized biosafety level three (BSL3) containment laboratory as well as rodent infection experiments, assist in managing BSL3 laboratories.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Cultures and quantitates pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria and viruses including M. Tuberculosis, select agents and pathogenic viruses requiring work in BSL3 facilities including drug resistant strains.
  • Performs detailed MICs and DNA / RNA extraction of above-described bacteria and viruses using various systems.
  • Develops and applies new CRISPRi library screening methods to studies of laboratory and clinical strains of M. tuberculosis.
  • Assists in the development and testing of new assays.
  • Assists in designing experiments, research protocols, SOPs and negotiating research contracts with outside companies and academic institutions.
