Summary

At Server Mania, we pride ourselves on being a thought leader in the IT hosting industry. As the Data Center Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of data center hardware, including servers, networks, and storage systems. The role involves managing inventory, performing daily inspections, and maintaining data center documentation. This position requires strong technical skills, excellent problem‑solving abilities, and the capacity to work in a team‑oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process customer orders per defined workflows and instructions.
  • Install switches, rack and stack of data center hardware.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot servers and/or network issues.
  • Perform daily visual inspections on major data center equipment; independently resolve minor issues while escalating more critical ones.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels across the data center.
  • Conduct periodic Operations and Facilities Audits.
  • Spec, configure and maintain server hardware.
  • Carry out testing and fault finding on copper and fiber cabling.
  • Facilitate receiving and shipping of gear to another datacenter location if necessary.
  • Work with the Support Team on answering any tickets needed when Facility work is minimal.

Other duties include:

  • Maintain strict adherence to customer expectations and company policy.
  • Follow best practices for data center cabling.
  • Offer suggestions for continual improvement through appropriate identified channels.
  • Create and update data center documentation (plans, instruction manuals and procedures, etc.).
  • Coordinate necessary facilities resources to resolve facilities related incidents.
  • Receive, inventory, and provision incoming equipment.
  • Provision and remove internal and customer equipment.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations as per data center policy.
  • Communicate with customers as solely described by management and/or company communications policy.

Qualifications:

  • College diploma in Computer Systems or related.
  • 3+ years IT industry experience, particularly in server hosting.
  • Solid working knowledge of Linux Distributions, Windows Server.
  • Working knowledge of cPanel/Plesk.
  • Superior knowledge and demonstrated skill working with Super Micro and AMD server hardware.
  • Moderate computer networking skills.
  • Experience using Ubersmith is a plus.
  • Solid communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working in a 24/7/365 industry.
