Job Description & How to Apply Below
Overview
- If your background is primarily in Fabric, Power BI, or general Azure data engineering without direct experience navigating the D365 F&O data model in a manufacturing context, this role is likely not the right fit. We are looking for someone who has solved the hard problem of knowing which tables inside D365 hold the data that matters - and getting it out accurately.
- This role does not provide sponsorship
This role owns the bridge between Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and the Microsoft Fabric analytics platform. The core requirement is deep, hands‑on knowledge of the D365 F&O data model - specifically within manufacturing, costing, supply chain, and financial operations - combined with the ability to extract, transform, and surface that data through Microsoft Fabric.
Power BI reporting and general Fabric development are already handled internally. What the team needs is someone who knows where the data lives inside D365, how to get it out reliably, and how to model it for multi‑entity, global financial and operational reporting. Candidates with strong Fabric skills but no D365 F&O data model experience will not be a fit.
- Identify, extract, and document the correct D365 F&O tables and entities across manufacturing, costing, supply chain and finance modules.
- Design and maintain data extraction pipelines from D365 F&O into Microsoft Fabric using Fabric Link and related integration patterns (including Synapse Link where applicable).
- Ensure data accuracy, traceability, and consistency from source ERP tables through to reporting layers.
- Support multi‑entity consolidation and cross‑geography financial reporting requirements (US, China, Europe).
- Build and maintain the Fabric data estate, including medallion architecture, lake houses, and semantic models fed from D365 F&O and operational data sources.
- Design and develop ETL/ELT pipelines that are performant, reliable, and maintainable.
- Enable near‑real‑time data integration, including PLC and machine/IoT data from manufacturing operations.
- Apply governance, security, and cost controls with defined service level objectives.
- Work directly with Finance, Operations, and IT to gather and clarify data requirements.
- Translate business needs into scalable, documented technical solutions.
- Communicate clearly with non‑technical stakeholders, including finance and operations leadership.
- 5–10+ years of hands‑on experience in data engineering within ERP‑heavy environments.
- Deep knowledge of the D365 Finance & Operations data model, particularly manufacturing, costing, supply chain and GL/financial modules. This is the critical differentiating requirement.
- Proven experience extracting D365 F&O data using Fabric Link, Synapse Link, or equivalent integration approaches.
- Strong SQL Server skills and ETL/ELT development experience.
- Experience building data models and semantic layers for analytics and reporting.
- Demonstrated experience supporting multi‑entity or global financial reporting environments.
- Ability to work cross‑functionally with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience with manufacturing data environments including BOMs, routings, production orders, and costing.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric components:
One Lake, Dataflows Gen2, Fabric Pipelines, Notebooks (PySpark/SparkSQL), Direct Lake. - Experience with Azure data services (ADF, ADLS, Azure SQL Database).
- Exposure to IoT or PLC/operational data integration.
- Understanding of governance, compliance, and performance optimization in enterprise data platforms.
