Desktop Engineer

Location:

Newark, NJ (onsite) Duration: 12+ months

Notes:

Comfortable with working onsite from 4pm-12am.

Position Overview:

Experienced IT Operations/Computer Operations professional with hands-on experience supporting large-scale data center and centralized IT environments.
Skilled in monitoring computer systems, network operations, environmental systems, UPS, security systems, and data center infrastructure.
Experience working in Network Operations Center (NOC) environments with expertise in production support and operational monitoring.
Proficient in supporting distributed server environments including AIX, Linux, and Windows systems.
Strong knowledge of production control processes, batch monitoring, and system maintenance activities.
Experience working with Control-M scheduling tools and TPE/BPE Manager for operational support and transaction monitoring.
Familiar with data center HVAC systems, electrical systems, security operations, and incident response procedures.
Ability to coordinate with hardware/software vendors for issue resolution and operational support.
Ensures high-quality, defect-free printed output and maintains operational standards within enterprise environments.
Comfortable working weekend shifts, rotational schedules, and flexible hours in 24x7 operational environments.
Strong troubleshooting, multitasking, and system monitoring capabilities with minimal supervision.

Skills:

Completion of a two-year certificate/degree in an IT-related field from a college, university, or technical school, or equivalent IT work experience.
Experience as a Computer Operator in a large Data Center environment.
Experience working in a Network Operations Center (NOC).
Experience with Production Control processes.
Hands-on experience with Control-M.
Experience with TPE/BPE Manager.
Experience with Data Center security operations.
Experience supporting Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in a Data Center.
Experience with Data Center electrical power systems including generators and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).
Experience working with raised floor environments in Data Centers.
Experience with fire detection and fire suppression systems in Data Centers.
Knowledge of Change Management policies, procedures, and software.
Experience with Incident and Problem Management processes and tools.
Experience with Asset Management policies, procedures, and software.
Knowledge of networking technologies including LAN/WAN, MPLS, TCP/IP, and SNA.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
Familiarity with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) practices.
Experience with automated job schedulers.
Experience managing hardware/software maintenance contracts.
Knowledge of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery processes.
Experience working with distributed servers running AIX, Linux, and Windows.
Experience working with State and/or Federal government environments is a plus.
