We are seeking an experienced Complex Liability Coverage Consultant to help clients maximize insurance recoveries related to mass tort, long-tail, and other complex liability claims. This position will analyze legacy insurance programs, develop coverage strategies, negotiate with insurance carriers, and provide technical guidance on challenging liability matters.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience evaluating and negotiating coverage for multi-year claims, along with the ability to translate complex insurance issues into practical strategies and clear client recommendations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize insurance recoveries for complex and long-tail claims.
  • Analyze coverage for matters involving environmental and pollution claims, asbestos, toxic torts, sexual assault, concussion, and other high-value liabilities.
  • Review historical insurance policies and identify provisions that may apply to current or legacy claims.
  • Conduct insurance archaeology and research legacy policies and coverage records.
  • Prepare coverage analyses, policy maps, allocation models, and other client deliverables.
  • Manage carrier communications, including claim notices, tenders, coverage position letters, and information requests.
  • Present well-supported coverage arguments and negotiate resolutions with carriers and adjusters.
  • Evaluate cost-sharing agreements, allocation arrangements, and insurance buyout offers.
  • Track claims, carrier responses, payments, recoveries, and outstanding action items.
  • Lead client needs assessments and develop project plans, methodologies, and recommended approaches.
  • Provide clients with practical guidance for managing complex liability programs and initiatives.
  • Maintain strong client relationships by delivering accurate, timely, and responsive service.
  • Identify additional risks, concerns, or opportunities that may affect the client’s recovery strategy.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and follow established timekeeping, expense-reporting, and billing requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5–10+ years of experience evaluating and negotiating insurance coverage for multi-year or long-tail claims.
  • Experience gained within an insurance carrier, insurance archaeology firm, law firm, claims consulting practice, or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of complex insurance programs, policy language, coverage analysis, and loss allocation.
  • Experience communicating and negotiating with insurers, adjusters, attorneys, and senior client stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and develop clear, well-supported recommendations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, negotiation, and client-service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, timely work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting insurance archaeology or legacy policy searches.
  • Knowledge of mass tort, environmental, pollution, asbestos, toxic tort, or other complex liability claims.
  • Experience preparing policy charts, coverage maps, allocation models, or claims-tracking databases.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating insurance recoveries or loss-allocation resolutions.
  • Proven ability to build trusted client relationships and expand consulting engagements.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an analytical and client-focused coverage professional who can navigate complicated insurance programs and long-tail claims with confidence. They are skilled at uncovering historical coverage, developing persuasive coverage positions, and negotiating with carriers to achieve favorable outcomes. They are also proactive, responsive, and comfortable serving as a trusted advisor on sensitive, high-value liability matters.
