Our client, a well-established law firm, is seeking a Legal Assistant to support attorneys in the Trusts & Estates Practice in Essex County, NJ.

The role involves performing a mix of administrative, organizational, and confidential legal support duties for attorneys in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to attorneys in the Trusts & Estates group
  • Attend client meetings (on-site and off-site) to witness client document signings
  • Transcribe legal briefs, correspondence, and memoranda from rough drafts or dictation
  • Prepare and edit various legal documents, including letters, pleadings, and agreements
  • File legal documents electronically with courts and other agencies
  • Manage attorney calendars, schedule meetings and appointments, and coordinate travel arrangements
  • Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including mail and email
  • Prepare and process billing, proofread billing sheets, and review/edit draft invoices
  • Maintain and organize confidential legal and administrative files
  • Assist with reimbursements and internal expense reporting
  • Provide support to other attorneys and legal assistants as needed across the practice group
  • Manage contact databases and client information systems
Qualifications

Experience & Training

  • 3–5 years of experience as a legal assistant, preferably in a law firm setting
  • Typing speed of at least 70 words per minute

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of legal office procedures, terminology, and document preparation
  • Familiarity with Trusts & Estates work preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
    , including redline comparisons
  • Experience using digital dictation tools (e.g., Big Hand or similar software)
  • Excellent proofreading, grammar, and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
  • Team-oriented mindset and professional demeanor
Compensation & Benefits
  • Annual salary range: $60,000 – $85,000
    , depending on experience
  • Eligibility for discretionary bonus
