Our client is a stable and growing international biotech company that is looking for a General Counsel to help lead them during continued growth here in the US across an innovative R&D pipeline, while also continuing to manage a successful specialty/generics business. You will have both executive leadership and hands‑on responsibility across Business Development, Commercial, R&D/Operations, Corporate, and Strategy.

LOCATION

Our client is located in New Jersey. They require that someone live in NJ, NY, CT, MA or PA and you need to be in the office at least a few days per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Directs and coordinates all legal activities across the company.
  • Manage day‑to‑day legal operations related to lifecycle management across the company’s innovative assets.
  • Hands‑on legal support and leadership across Business Development (licensing, investment, divestment, supply, quality, etc.).
  • Conducts, manages, and oversees all legal due diligence with third parties, including, but not limited to, contract, antitrust, IP, regulatory/legal, and compliance.
  • Reviews and revises contracts/agreements with direct and indirect customers such as wholesalers, retailers, GPOs, etc.
  • Assesses IP landscape and provides opinions and advice on company product/project IP positions and strategies.
  • Provides timely legal guidance related to day‑to‑day policy and legal questions raised by the business.
  • Manages and liaises with outside counsel on litigation and other legal matters.
  • Partners with CHRO on employee related legal matters.
  • Partners with Regulatory Affairs on FDA‑related legal matters.
  • Serves as the Corporate Secretary assisting the Board with administration and governance requirements.
  • Develops and provides training on legal and policy matters.
  • Develops and executes legal strategies that support business growth and risk mitigation in line with broader corporate initiatives, including corporate reorganization, acquisitions, product strategy, and financing.
  • Serves as a key advisor to the CEO, executive team, and board of directors on legal matters impacting the business.
  • Oversees outside counsel and vendor relationships to ensure cost effective legal services.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 10+ years of hands‑on legal leadership, which requires hands‑on legal experience within the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry. Ideally this will further include specialty/generics experience.
  • Ideally the candidate will have tenure at an international company(s).
