- Lead daily terminal operations, ensuring all labor and equipment assignments are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with operating plans.
- Direct foremen and chief supervisors to optimize labor utilization, manage costs, and support consistent execution across vessel, yard, and gate activities.
- Order, deploy, and adjust labor resources in real time, including authorizing overtime and supplemental labor based on operational requirements.
- Monitor labor arrival times, validate hours worked, and ensure accurate payroll reporting and time‑keeping adjustments.
- Establish equipment and yard strategies to maximize yard space, ensure chassis availability, and support vessel productivity.
- Make real‑time decisions reallocating labor, equipment, vessel gangs, rail units, and gate resources to maintain operational flow and meet business priorities.
- Oversee labor relations activities, including coaching, corrective action, and disciplinary processes for union labor in accordance with safety and operational standards.
- Hold foremen and chief supervisors accountable for safe behaviors and effective performance; intervene and reassign as needed to maintain a safe operation.
- Support development, implementation, and refinement of operating plans across the terminal.
- Work a rotating schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays to support 24/7 terminal operations.
- Continuous improvement mindset: naturally curious, committed to solving problems at the root, and driven to make things better every day.
- Minimum two years of supervisory or management experience, preferably in operations, transportation, warehousing, supply chain, stevedoring, or equivalent military experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a unionized labor environment and manage performance through clear communication, coaching, and accountability.
- Strong decision‑making skills with the ability to respond quickly to changing operational conditions while maintaining safety and efficiency.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and the ability to learn terminal‑specific systems and tools.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a TWIC card.
$90,000 – $120,000+.
Hours12‑hour rotating shifts.
Work Environment &Physical Requirements
This role is performed outdoors in an active terminal environment. It requires standing and walking for extended periods, climbing, balancing, and working around moving equipment. The role involves lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and operational hazards.
