Operations Manager, General Management, Program / Project Manager
Valor Front Executive Search & Leadership Consulting has been exclusively retained to identify a General Manager for our client, a well-established commercial and industrial boiler services company headquartered in New Jersey. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced operator who is ready to own a P&L, grow a business, and lead a team through an exciting period of strategic expansion.
AboutOur Client
Our client is a New Jersey-based boiler services company operating across three business pillars: equipment sales, boiler operations, and service, repair, and maintenance. Their customer base spans municipalities, boards of education, hospitals, and commercial and industrial accounts throughout New Jersey.
The business is privately held, backed by a growth-oriented investment group, and is positioned for significant expansion over the next five years through both organic growth and strategic acquisition. The GM of this business has a clear pathway to assume broader leadership responsibility across the investment group's industrial services portfolio.
About the RoleThe General Manager will have full P&L ownership and day-to-day operational leadership of the New Jersey business. Reporting to the President and COO of the parent industrial services group, this leader will manage a direct leadership team that includes a Service Manager, Equipment Manager, Director of Operations, and Senior Business Operations Manager, with indirect oversight of a field team of approximately 35 total operators and service technicians.
This is an on-site, in-person role. The successful candidate will be present daily, visible to the team, and active in the market.
What You Will Do- Drive revenue growth across all three business lines: equipment sales, operations, and service and repair
- Own and execute the strategic plan, not just develop it
- Build and strengthen customer relationships across the commercial and municipal landscape in New Jersey
- Lead a team through a culture transition from entrepreneurial to process-driven scale
- Implement cross-functional best practices in coordination with a sister company in Massachusetts
- Manage up to investors and senior financial leadership with professionalism and confidence
- Develop internal talent and build the organizational depth needed to support growth
Our client is seeking a proven operator with genuine P&L accountability, a commercial orientation, and the leadership presence to stabilize and grow a skilled-trades services business.
The ideal candidate brings a background in mechanical contracting, HVAC, MEP services, boiler systems, or a related industrial services environment at the $20-$50 million revenue range. A track record of growing a business, not just managing one, is essential. Experience navigating entrepreneurial cultures and driving process improvement is equally important.
Specific qualifications include demonstrated P&L ownership, hands‑on operational leadership, commercial sales exposure or experience, and familiarity with field service or skilled trades environments.
A mechanical engineering background or PE license is a meaningful differentiator. Experience with Six Sigma, Lean, or similar process improvement frameworks is a plus.
Why This OpportunityOur client offers the right leader a rare combination of autonomy, resources, and long-term runway. The business is backed by a private investment group that is actively growing its industrial services portfolio and is committed to building the New Jersey business into a market leader. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.
