Position Overview

The Packaging Manager has full accountability for the safe, efficient, and cost‑effective operation of the packaging department across a 24/7/365 production environment. This role is responsible for optimizing packaging floor performance, maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), reducing labor and operating costs, improving changeover execution, and ensuring material flow and feeding to prevent unplanned downtime.

Operational Leadership
  • Own and manage 24/7/365 packaging operations, ensuring consistent performance across all shifts and buildings.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for shift packaging managers and team leaders.
  • Ensure effective communication, alignment, and handoff between shifts to maintain operational continuity.
Performance Optimization
  • Drive improvements in line OEE, throughput, uptime, and first-pass yield across all packaging assets.
  • Analyze downtime, micro‑stoppages, and performance losses; implement corrective actions and root cause solutions.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize changeover performance, including standard work and scheduling discipline.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Engineering to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
Labor & Cost Control
  • Optimize labor utilization and staffing models to support demand while minimizing overtime and labor cost per unit.
  • Ensure effective deployment of team leaders and operators across multiple packaging lines and buildings.
  • Support annual budget planning and manage operating expenses within targets.
Materials Flow & Planning
  • Ensure raw, packaging, and finished goods materials are staged, fed, and replenished to avoid production interruptions.
  • Collaborate with Planning, Warehouse, and Supply Chain teams to align production schedules and material availability.
  • Identify and eliminate material flow constraints impacting packaging efficiency.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Enforce all safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices; promote a strong safety culture across all shifts.
  • Ensure packaging operations comply with food safety, quality, regulatory, and company standards.
  • Respond to quality deviations and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
Continuous Improvement
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and problem‑solving methodologies.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices across packaging operations.
  • Use data, KPIs, and visual management to drive accountability and performance improvement.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Partner closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Planning, HR, and EHS teams.
  • Provide regular performance reporting and operational updates to plant leadership.
  • Support training, development, and succession planning for packaging leadership roles.
Physical Demands / Essential Job Functions
  • Regularly required to walk production floors across two buildings and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated platforms as required.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment and respond to operational issues as needed, including off‑hours support.
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing and packaging environment with automated equipment, conveyors, robotics, and palletizing systems.
  • Exposure to noise, moving machinery, forklift traffic, temperature variation, and food‑manufacturing conditions.
  • Role requires availability to support operations during nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.
Worksite
  • The PIM Brands Manufacturing Site is located in Somerset, New Jersey.
  • The PIM Brands Manufacturing Site operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • This position requires working onsite.
