Overview

Manual Machinist and/or Shop Welder

• Operates and maintains lathe and milling machines (Southwestern Industries mills and lathes) using ProtoTRAK M2 and SMX controls
• Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production
• Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping
• Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task
• Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary
• Checks output for quality assurance and documents or discards defects
• Maintains a safe and clean workstation
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed
• R&D and prototype small-batch projects
• Support our Sheet Metal and Misc. Metals shop needs

• Experience in machining with steel, aluminum, and stainless steel
• Ability to follow work orders and work in teams
• Proto Trak control experience a plus
• Experience with Southwestern knee mills and lathes a plus
• Ability to read and interpret designs/blueprints
• Ability to perform physical labor and lift at least 50 pounds
• Ability to work standing for an 8-hour shift
• Knowledge of various steels and alloys, NDE processes and requirements
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
• Valid Driver's license required
• Must pass pre-employment testing to include background checks, MVR, and drug screen
