Braen Stone Industries, the leading supplier of construction materials including stone, sand, asphalt, septic materials, recycled materials and agricultural limestone, is currently seeking a Material Handler/Laborer in our Newark, NJ location.
We are a safety minded company and expect the successful candidate to be as well. This position is hourly, non-exempt from overtime. Overtime is paid after 40 hours are worked each week.
The expectation of a Material Handler/ Laborer is to manipulate and maintain Tele Stacker conveyer belt to safely prepare, secure and load barges andtomakesurethattheprojectsarecompletedaccurately and timely according to marine demands. Itis important for
Material Handler/ Laborer to communicate with eachotherto meetallproduction/sales/customer needs while always following the Company’s core values of Service, Integrity and Respect.
- Operate remote controlled conveyer belt and small powered equipment like a skid steer
- Inspect equipment/controlstomaintainsafedaily operations
- Completemiscellaneousmaintenance/cleaning tasks i.e., sweeping, shoveling, general labor duties accordingtobusiness needs
- Assist with repair and service of Tele Stacker
- Maintaining a safe working environment
- Conducting pre-shift inspections of Tele Stacker and all work areas including Boston barge and all other machinery on site, as well as on-going daily inspections and post-shift inspections
- Participate in pre-shift meetings with other team members to plan and execute the loading process of each individual barge
- Adding materials to completed barges according to business need as assigned by Manager
- Working with team to make barge loading adjustments as dictated by changing weather conditions
- Cross train into other heavy equipment once familiar with operations
- Abilitytoestablisheffectiveworkingrelationshipswithfellowemployeesand supervisors
- Strong communication skills and comfortable communicating via two-way radio to other team members
- Basic math skills
- Ability and interest in learning marine terminology and technology
- Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing instructions and processes
- Dailycheckingofequipment/machineryforpre-shift compliance and communication with team on findings and equipment performance
- Standingforlongperiodsoftime,bending,twisting,kneeling,stooping, crouch/crawl
- Routine pushing/pullingwhenoperatingremote controls
- Liftingis required
- Pulling of marine ropes for extended periods of time
- Perform all job related functions in all weather conditions, via ladder at elevated heights, near water
- Ability to tread water
- Exposure to high levels of noise, grease, and dust
- Ability to work extended hours as required by changing weather conditions and business needs
Pay: $18.00-$23.00/Hour
This position may be subjected to seasonal layoffs.
