APPLICATION LINKJOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARYHamawy for NJ is hiring a Communications Director to oversee a variety of campaign communications and to develop a comprehensive campaign communications plan in a highly contested Democratic primary for an open US House seat.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING- Developing and implementing a comprehensive communications and press plan & strategy;
- Working closely with the social media team and consultants to ensure alignment with campaign communications strategy;
- Being the primary point of contact for press;
- Pitching media and place stories, and successfully executing an earned media strategy;
- Preparing the candidate for interviews and other public-facing settings;
- Writing speeches, press releases, statements, prep materials, and more;
- Tracking the race and the news cycle closely;
This is a full-time, in-person position in New Jersey that will end when the primary campaign concludes in June 2026, with the possibility of extension to November 2026. Campaign hours are expected of any successful candidate.
COMPENSATIONThis is a salaried position that will be compensated between per month, based on experience.
REQUIREMENTS WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO- Has a desire to learn and a willingness to receive feedback;
- Is willing to work long hours (including nights and weekends) when necessary and deeply committed to the mission;
- Is confident in social and professional settings with individuals of varied personalities;
- Aligns with the campaign’s progressive values;
- Meets deadlines, works well with a variety of personalities and skill levels, and an effective multi-tasker;
- Experience in writing press releases, statements, speeches, and external communications for a campaign.
- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail.
- Understanding paid media, including direct mail and digital + TV ads.
- Experience working with principals and preparing them for public speaking engagements and press interviews.
- Familiarity with media tracking and social media tracking.
Strong work ethic and ability to perform under tight and unexpected deadlines. - The ability to build trust and work well with a large and diverse team.
- Excellent writer.
- Access to cell phone/computer.
- Experience volunteering or working on a political campaign.
- Experience managing communications and press for a US House race or larger election.
- Relationships with NYC and Philadelphia media market journalists.
- Relationships with local journalists with NJ-12.
- Relationships with national press.
- Personal ties to NJ-12 or New Jersey.
