Coordinator for Mercy House

The Coordinator for Mercy House will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of all Mercy House locations, providing direction to incoming donations and volunteers.

Specific duties/responsibilities include:

  • Ensure all donation rooms at each Mercy House location are sorted, organized and prepared for donation distribution prior to opening.
  • Manage client flow throughout the day, ensuring orderly distribution and coordination with the Director for the day's scheduled appointments.
  • Collaborate closely with the volunteers throughout the day to ensure their needs are met.
  • Take initiative throughout the day to ensure all incoming donations are sorted and organized by day's end.
  • Step in to perform the duties of other coordinators and/or volunteers when they are absent.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of Mercy House is maintained throughout the day and at the end of each shift (i.e., sweeping, garbage removal, all the rooms neatly organized, prepare and stock the rooms for the following day)
  • Work closely with Associate Director on varying projects and/or programs related to Mercy House.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Respect Life and Mercy House on various projects and programs related to the Mercy House.
  • Supervise multiple volunteers at one time by offering direction and guidance.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with donors, volunteers, and local community members.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Respect Life and Mercy House to provide lunch for individual and group volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/skills include:

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with people of all ages, backgrounds, and circumstances while upholding the mission of Mercy House.
  • Demonstrates a fair understanding of local communities and the needs of underserved populations.
  • Genuine passion for pro-life ministry and a deep respect for the dignity of every human person.
  • Adherence to professional dress standards consistent with the Archdiocese of Newark:
    • Acceptable:
      Mercy House T-shirt (provided) or plain T-shirt; conservative denim, cargo pants, sweatpants, or shorts (summer months only), sneakers and boots.
    • Prohibited:
      Hats or baseball caps, ripped or torn clothing, graphic or branded t-shirts, and open-toe shoes

Education and/or experience (preferred):

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
  • Prior experience volunteering or working in resource centers, shelters, or ministries serving disadvantaged communities.
  • Experience interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs.

Physical demands include:

This role requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, and moving large quantities of donations. The employee must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
