Community Outreach and Education Specialist - North

The Community Outreach and Education Specialists will conduct outreach with and provide education to community organizations who likely encounter victims of human trafficking and the services CHNJ has available for victims. They will also support the Resource Specialists in the initial meetings with recovered victims with the intention of increasing victims' receptiveness to services. Through street work and community relations the Specialists will identify, engage and assist potential victims of human trafficking with absolute respect and unconditional love.

Specialists will target communities with large groups of populations disproportionately impacted by human trafficking and exploitation and locations connected to sectors where labor trafficking often occurs. As a component of street outreach efforts, Specialists will educate individuals at-risk of trafficking on workers' and victims' rights.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Actively participates in outreach meetings to include but not limited to local Human Trafficking Task Forces and Coalitions and CoC's, in an effort to establish and support partners in care and collaborate with other providers.
  • Take leadership roles in relevant task forces and coalitions
  • Identify and actively participate in relevant task forces and coalitions within communities
  • Inform the external community about all available CHNJ programs and services
  • Make public and agency presentations and attend meetings with agencies and public officials as needed.
  • Organize and lead community contacts to reach more victims of human trafficking
  • Use best practices to engage with people within the community, and maintain fidelity to training materials developed in alignment with CHNJ's philosophy of care
  • Assist survivors with immediate needs including food, medical care, transportation or bus tickets, clothing and emergency shelter
  • Refer potential victims of human trafficking to Resource Specialists, and other victim service agencies and community services
  • Identify potential hot spots and provide street outreach and neighborhood engagement.
  • Collaborate with other Street Outreach Teams and participate in external outreach events
  • Specialists will target communities with large groups who are vulnerable to trafficking and locations connected to sectors where labor trafficking often occurs.
  • Educate at-risk groups about their rights as employees and victims
  • Interpret program services to consumers and professionals encountered while distributing informational material.
  • Establish and maintain connections with the other members of the HTVS team to include attendance at weekly team meetings.
  • Input neighborhood partner contact information and document interaction with other providers within the Sales Force system.
  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures and Child Protection standards
  • Assists as needed with fundraising affairs and special events which may be conducted outside the employee’s normal work schedule
  • All other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of HTVS

This is a one year grant position which may or may not be renewed.

Salary: $58,700 annually.

Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree or High School Diploma and 3 years work experience in a relevant field
  • Lived experience of human trafficking required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills required
  • Must have flexibility within their schedule for events and outreach outside of normal business hours.
  • Staff must be able to work in environments where participants are living including outdoor locations
  • Must demonstrate basic computer literacy including Microsoft word and excel; and Sales Force and ETO knowledge preferred.
  • Valid NJ driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • Must have use of your own transportation.
