Rutgers seeks a Part‑Time Licensed Practical Nurse for Northern State Prison, located in Newark, NJ. The primary purpose of the position is to administer total patient care in accordance with professional nursing standards, in collaboration with a Registered Nurse and under its supervision. Responsibilities include technical nursing care, treatment and procedure execution, and creation of a safe, therapeutic environment.

Responsibilities

• Participate in data collection related to patients’ status and needs.
• Provide input to the Registered Nurse for incorporation into the plan of care by communicating information pertinent to the patient’s status.
• Deliver direct patient care within scope of practice to ensure implementation of the plan of care.
• Inform and instruct patients or significant others on patient’s health/illness state and plan of care.
• Assist patient or significant other in preparation for discharge and health maintenance at home.
• Document all aspects of patient care.

Qualifications

• Valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
• Minimum 6 months experience in an acute hospital setting (preferred).

Certifications/Licenses

• CPR certification required.
• Valid driver’s license required. Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation between sites.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and assist in lifting or rotating patients weighing up to 50 pounds.

Special Conditions

Approval from the Department of Corrections (DOC) is required, and the applicant must adhere to all DOC requirements.
