Job Title: Nursing Shift Supervisor Department: Nursing Leadership Location: Newark Wayne Hospital Hours Per Week: 36 Schedule: Day/Evening/Night SUMMARY: The Nursing Shift Supervisor is a Nursing Leader who serves as a resource for problem solving, provides clinical expertise, facilitates staff mentoring and coaching, facilitates patient flow during the off shifts (typically, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays).
RESPONSIBILITIES- Provides on-site leadership and oversight during off-shifts in hospital or long-term care settings, managing patient care delivery, staffing, and emergent situations in the absence of onsite management.
- Supports staff through clinical problem-solving, mentoring, coaching, and reinforcing hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Rounds on patients with concerns, admitted Emergency Department patients, and actively facilitates patient flow and decision-making in collaboration with the care team.
- Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure safe, respectful, and culturally sensitive care, while advocating for patient rights and shared decision-making.
- Ensures appropriate documentation and communication of shift occurrences, safety concerns, and staffing adjustments; serves as liaison across departments and with leadership.
- Maintains required education, participates in leadership development, ensures fiscal responsibility, and engages in community and professional healthcare activities.
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required.
- Current New York State Registered Nurse License.
- Effective 1/1/2014, BLS required for all new candidates prior to hire.
- BLS required for all internal team members by 12/31/2014.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
