Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our expert team in the division of gastroenterology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center-RWJBH, Newark, NJ. The Nurse Practitioner will work under the direction of Gastroenterology division director. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with our board‑certified gastroenterologists in diagnosing and managing a diverse array of gastrointestinal conditions, ranging from common disorders to complex cases in both ambulatory gastroenterology clinic and in‑patient hospital settings.

  • APN License
  • RN License
  • Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) by an accredited body (e.g., ANCC or AANP)
  • DEA and CDS
  • CPR Certification
  • ACLS and BLS certification through the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Gastroenterology‑specific certification or additional training in the field
  • 1‑2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner, with specific experience in gastroenterology preferred
  • Strong clinical skills in evaluating and managing GI disorders and familiarity with associated diagnostic tools.
  • Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) and telehealth platforms.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Essential Functions
  • Actively identifies patient issues that require referral to another specialist and works collaboratively with consultants
  • Assesses, examines, evaluates and provides treatment to patients for end‑stage disease management, pre‑transplant and post‑transplant that are referred to the office
  • Both outpatient and inpatient
  • Assist in completing disability, DME, prior authorizations or other forms/paperwork when necessary in a timely manner
  • Complete patient history and physicals for all patient procedures
  • Identifies patients who are potential candidates for advanced therapies and presents patients at weekly section meetings
  • On‑call coverage for the practice on a rotating schedule with other nursing coordinators of the program
  • Provide patient and family education regarding advanced therapies, transplant pre and post‑operative care, medications and necessary follow‑up
  • Review all diagnostic and other test results to determine appropriate steps in patient care, according to department guidelines or evidence‑based medicine

    Communicates with patients so they can clearly understand their current status and recommendations for care
  • Works closely with team of RNs and medical assistants to meet patients needs of timely and adequate communication, testing, follow‑up, patient education or addressing acute issues
  • Promotes departmental teamwork
