Main Function

  • Assists the Director of Nursing Services to meet the over‑all objectives of the Nursing Department.
  • Represents the Director of Nursing Services in his absence.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Facilitates and oversees the operational aspects of the department.
  • Assists in organizing and administering the department.
  • Assumes responsibility delegated by the Director of Nursing Service.
  • Assumes administrative responsibility for nursing services in the absence of the Director of Nursing Services.
  • Promotes initiative, solves problems, and presents new policies and procedures.
  • Analyzes nursing and ancillary services to improve the quality of nursing care by making daily rounds to ensure quality of patient care, and to see that policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Maintains harmonious relationships among nursing personnel, medical staff and residents.
  • Assists Nursing Director in maintaining personnel and other records, and directs maintenance of patient care records.
  • Supervises Clinical Nurse Manager and evaluates all nursing and ancillary nursing personnel and activities related to nursing care in each nursing unit.
  • Ensures quality of patient care.
  • Works with other departments in order to improve quality of facility services to all residents.
  • May be assigned responsibility for direct patient care, and patient care audit system.
  • Works within the Nursing Department to maintain compliance with all Government regulations, local, state and federal.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an effective orientation program that orients new nursing staff to the facility, its policies and procedures, and to his/her job position and duties.
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct wound management services including evaluating resident wounds & specific treatments with physician & nursing staff and maintaining treatment records & resident files.
  • Monitor practices & procedures regarding falls as well as prepare, review & maintain incident reports.
  • Attends IDCP meetings periodically and reviews care plans to ensure compliance with Department of Health regulations.
Education Requirements
  • Must possess a current New Jersey RN License.
  • B.S.N. preferred.
Experience
  • Must have Administrative, gerontological experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility.
