Director of Center on Research in Pain and Pain Therapeutics at Rutgers Brain Health Institute
Position Overview:
The Rutgers Brain Health Institute (BHI) and Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM) are seeking an accomplished scientist at the Professor or Associate Professor level to serve as Director of the new Rutgers Center on Research in Pain and Pain Therapeutics (CRPPT). The role will develop a multidisciplinary research center focused on mechanisms underlying pain, identify novel therapeutic targets, assess efficacy of treatments, and advance precision medicine approaches to diagnose and treat pain.
- Establish and lead the CRPPT, coordinating research among faculty across Rutgers schools and affiliated institutions.
- Build collaborations with internal and external partners, including RWJMS, NJMS, Rutgers Nursing, School of Arts & Sciences, School of Pharmacy, VA Medical Centers, and Rutgers Cancer Institute.
- Lead translational science initiatives from basic research to clinical trials and population studies.
- Serve as a high‑profile leader, engaging with stakeholders and representing Rutgers in New Jersey.
- Coordinate NIH‑supported training programs and foster diversity in the research community.
- Advance the Director’s own federally funded research program in pain research.
- Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., or equivalent doctoral degree.
- Active independent NIH‑ or federally funded research program in pain research.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a research center or comparable setting.
- Experience in translational science, including basic to clinical studies.
- Strong record of securing federal funding and publishing in high‑impact journals.
- Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive research environment.
- Clinician‑scientists with pain research expertise are encouraged.
• Salary range $150,000–$350,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
