Postdoctoral Associate
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate within the Department of Oral Biology at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM). Under the direction of Principal Investigator, this position focuses on investigating how biomedical implant degradation products modulate host immune responses using advanced cellular and murine models. The overarching goal is to develop novel therapeutic strategies for peri-implant disease, periodontal disease, and chronic low-grade inflammation.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Design and perform experiments focused on gene and protein expression in vitro and in vivo.
- Develop and maintain advanced cell culture systems, including macrophage models and multicellular 2D/3D culture platforms.
- Perform co-culture experiments involving immune and stromal cell populations.
- Conduct immunostaining on paraffin and frozen tissue sections.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure optimal research conditions.
- Assist in preparation of grant proposals, manuscripts, and presentations.
- Analyze high-throughput datasets, including RNA-seq and proteomics data.
- Collaborate with internal and external research teams.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- PhD in molecular biology, immunology, biomedical engineering, or related field. Consideration to interview will also be given to applicants who are completing their PhD in molecular biology, immunology, biomedical engineering, or related field. Documentation of the PhD in molecular biology, immunology, biomedical engineering, or related field must be provided prior to the commencement of employment. Strong expertise in cell culture, particularly macrophages and immune cell systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multicellular 2D and 3D culture models (e.g. co-culture systems, organoid/spheroid models) preferred. Experience with RNA-seq and/or proteomics preferred. Experience with murine models and basic surgical techniques is desirable.
