Research Associate II

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Associate II in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience within the New Jersey Medical School (NJMS). Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate II conducts specialized research related to second messengers, cAMP and cGMP and the role of these pathways in the cardiovascular and central nervous system;
Structure–function analysis of soluble guanylyl cyclase, the receptor for nitric oxide; and/or function of guanylyl cyclases by genetic disruption with siRNA; and mutational analysis and over expression with adenoviruses. Purification of proteins using baculoviruses and state of the art HPLC/FPLC equipment. Will manage genetically modified mouse colonies as well as assist in the management/coordination of a small laboratory.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Participates in the establishment of performance standards, as well as in the selection of methodology and instrumentation. Assists in conducting a continuous program of research and development. Evaluates existing procedures and proposes modifications or changes in order to keep the methodology and procedures current. As requested, performs various research and technical procedures, including but not limited to tissue culture, molecular biology (PCR, transfection, adenoviruses infection), mouse colony geneotyping and biochemical practices.

Purification of proteins after expression in insect cells using baculoviruses. The purification involves operating a high-tech FPLC/HPLC chromatographic system. Management of mouse colonies including weaning, genotyping, breeding and data bases maintenance.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in a relevant science, or a Master's Degree in a relevant science plus three (3) years of related research experience required.
