Research Assistant – Newark Museum of Art
Location:
Newark, NJ.Hybrid: office and up to one day remote per week.
Hourly rate: $32.00.Contract, part‑time position (up to 25 hours per week).Contract period:
October1,2025 – October1,2027.
Work with the Assistant Curator of Latinx & Latin American Art to research the NMOA collection, develop a related publication, and prepare a special exhibition.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform scholarly research and cataloguing on the existing Latinx & Latin American collection.
- Contribute to the collection catalog to be published in the fall of 2027.
- Support the preparation of a special exhibition planned for Fall
2027, including library and archival research. - Locate possible loans for the exhibition and correspond with artists, galleries, private collectors, archives, and institutions to facilitate acquisitions or exhibition loans.
- B.A. in Latino and/or Latin American Art History, Latino and/or Latin American Studies, or a related field (required).
- M.A. or equivalent museum experience preferred. Current graduate students will also be considered.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Fluency in Spanish (required).
- Knowledge of current scholarships in the field.
- Knowledge of TMS or similar collections management databases, collections care, and documentation issues is a plus.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods, move about, and access and operate equipment. Ability to lift and move up to 15 pounds. Work is not to exceed 25 hours per week.
