Job Summary

Supervisory CBP Officer (Canine) – GS‑13 located in Newark, NJ. The officer will lead the canine program, perform pre‑arrival targeting and intelligence vetting of persons, conveyances, and merchandise, monitor traveler behavior, collaborate with internal and external agencies, and mentor other CBP officers.

• Conduct prearrival targeting and intelligence vetting of persons, conveyances, and merchandise using law enforcement databases, intelligence systems, and open‑source information.
• Utilize observational techniques to monitor traveler behavior and assess risk for possible involvement in terrorism or other violations.
• Collaborate with internal components and cooperating government agencies to verify threats.
• Respond to and resolve technical and operational questions regarding the functioning of the canine program.
• Serve as coach and mentor to other CBP Officers on a regular and recurring basis.

• 1 year of specialized experience at the GS‑12 level or equivalent, performing the duties listed above.
• Must meet general federal employment requirements (education, time in grade, etc.) and have 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent.
• Background investigation must be completed and cleared, including review of criminal history and controlled substance use.
• Must complete a polygraph examination (or submit a prior federal polygraph result).
• Must be eligible for mandatory retirement provisions as a secondary CBP Officer, or meet all retirement eligibility criteria if not.
