Senior Generator Technician

Industry: Power Generation / Electrical Services

Compensation: $30 – $50/hour (based on experience) + overtime + company vehicle

We are seeking an experienced Generator Technician to support service, maintenance, and repair of standby and emergency power systems throughout the Newark, NJ area. This role is ideal for a mechanically and electrically skilled professional with experience servicing diesel and natural gas generators in commercial, industrial, healthcare, and mission‑critical environments.

The ideal candidate is hands‑on, self‑motivated, and comfortable working independently in the field.

• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues
• Troubleshoot ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches) systems
• Conduct load bank testing and commissioning of new units
• Perform emergency service calls as needed
• Complete detailed service reports and documentation
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
• Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment
• Communicate effectively with customers regarding findings and repairs

• 5+ years of experience servicing generators (Generac, Cummins, Kohler, CAT, MTU preferred)
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, fuel systems, and electrical controls
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics
• Experience with ATS systems and switch gear preferred
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
• Ability to work overtime and participate in on‑call rotation
• EPA Certification (preferred but not required)
• Technical school or military power generation experience is a plus
• Field-based role covering Newark and surrounding NJ areas
• Some regional travel may be required
• On-call rotation for emergency service
