About the Role
The primary purpose of the Mechanical Systems Mechanic I position is to perform a variety of maintenance repairs and installation/replacement of machinery, mechanical equipment and systems, and when assigned to shifts, responded and takes action on all skilled trade calls. Assists in the work direction of other mechanics, trades helpers, and mechanics of other skilled trades.
ResponsibilitiesWhat You’ll Do
- Operates, maintains repairs and installs specialized and complex machinery including, but not limited to pumps, compressors, air moving/distribution equipment, motors, heat exchanges, valves, pneumatic systems and regulators.
- Responds to mechanical trouble calls and requests within the facilities, using hand tools, power tools, analyzing equipment and testing instruments.
- Performs routine maintenance, preventive maintenance and inspections on mechanical equipment and related equipment/system. Ancillary equipment and support systems are inclusive of, but not limited to; controls, regulators, motors, compressors, air stations, coils, fluid/gas piping, strainers, operating valves and medical air/gas systems.
- Prepares, maintains and submits to the Supervisor, Maintenance and Construction requisitions for materials, work orders, required records and reports, pertaining to mechanical equipment systems.
- Interprets data from the power plant, mechanical systems, control systems, energy management systems and shift log, taking action, and making the Supervisor, Maintenance and construction aware of the appropriate action taken, when necessary.
What You’ll Bring
Required:
- Technical school diploma or an equivalent level of knowledge required. Five (5) years of experience in the operation, maintenance and installation of mechanical systems/equipment in an industrial, education, and/or health care setting.
- Sound knowledge of blue print and schematic reading is required, as is thorough knowledge of all applicable (local, state and national) codes. CFC Certification, Blue Seal Refrigerant, or New Jersey Black Seal High Pressure Engineer’s License is preferred.
- Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.

Compensation
In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is OH/2400:: $ 35.63 : $ 36.13 : $ 37.22 per hour. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs.
The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
