Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Overview
Assists with the operation, maintenance and calibration of user charge flow metering collection system instrumentation and signal communications. Conducts asset inspections and satellite monitoring station sampling.

- Conduct asset inspections and satellite monitoring station sampling.
- Clean, calibrate and repair electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation.
- Read and comprehend engineering and construction drawings, electronic and electrical schematics, and pneumatic and hydraulic flow diagrams.
- Work with personnel to effectively diagnose equipment and/or system failures.
- Available for emergencies and job assignments on a 24‑hour basis.
- Must possess knowledge of the theoretical and practical applications of flow metering principles and practices and computerized control systems.
- Must be familiar with pipe and manhole assessment protocols.
- Must possess knowledge of the standard tools, materials and equipment, along with the occupational and safety hazards and precautions.
- Must be able to read and comprehend engineering and construction drawings, electronic and electrical schematics, and pneumatic and hydraulic flow diagrams.
- Must be able to work with personnel to effectively diagnose equipment and/or system failures.
- Must be available for emergencies and job assignments on a 24‑hour basis.
- Must be able to read, write, communicate and understand English sufficiently to perform the functions of the position and execute verbal and written directions.
Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in collection system monitoring and/or instrumentation work. Must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey driver’s license. A C1 Collection System license is preferred.
EducationHigh school diploma, vocational school diploma, or equivalency certificate required, along with two (2) years of formal training in hydraulics, electrical/electronics, computers, pneumatics, PLC’s, SCADA, or related fields. Satisfactory completion of the Introduction to Wastewater Treatment course is required.
Physical DemandsAbility to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself and others are maintained. This includes physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs and the whole body such as climbing (including ladders), kneeling, sitting, standing, working from elevated areas, lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping, handling heavy objects, carrying, reaching, pushing, pulling, manual dexterity, using a keyboard, and minor use of tools, as well as visual acuity, hearing and speaking.
Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper PPE such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks as well as Self‑Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
The expected base pay range is $79,643 to $99,704. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, education, training, and formal credentials.

Working ConditionsWorkers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors.
