SUPERVISING CARPENTER NIGHT

This position is a provisional employee under the New Jersey Civil Service Commission and will require successful completion of a Civil Service examination in order to become a permanent employee.
OverviewThe Superintendent invites qualified candidates to apply for the Supervising Carpenter Night position. Duties include supervising a team of carpenters, inspecting work, developing work plans, estimating materials, and performing various carpentry tasks such as installing windows, doors, trim and flooring, and erecting scaffolds.
Basic Functions and Responsibilities- Inspect, analyze, and assist in determining carpentry work to be done.
- Develop effective work plans, assign tasks and give instructions to subordinates, and supervise their work.
- Estimate amounts of materials and equipment needed for carpentry construction and maintenance projects and lay out the work.
- Supervise and perform work involved in repairing, installing, and/or making windows, frames, sashes, screens, doors, interior or exterior trim, flooring, siding, sheeting, stair railings, porches, roofing and repairing, manufacturing, and installing cabinets, clothes racks, wardrobe furniture, and signs; installing cribbing and forms of concrete, and erecting scaffold sets.
- Operate a variety of woodworking machines.
- Maintain records and files.
- Prepare reports.
- Learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Perform other duties and tasks assigned by supervisor.
- Five (5) years of experience in carpentry work involving layout, construction, maintenance, and erection tasks.
- Valid driver’s license in New Jersey if vehicle operation is necessary for essential duties.
- Knowledge of problems, procedures, and methods used in inspecting, analyzing, and determining carpentry work to be done.
- Knowledge of keeping records and giving assignments and instructions.
- Ability to analyze carpentry problems.
- Ability to organize assigned work methods.
- Ability to give assignments and instructions.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Proficiency in speaking, writing, and understanding English. American Sign Language or Braille may be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
