Lead Mobile Diesel Technician – DOT Management Level, Individual Contributor (Cox Automotive – Cox Fleet)
Job OverviewThe Lead Mobile Diesel Technician performs licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and advanced diagnostics on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. The role includes leadership, mentorship, and client interaction, supporting the overall service team and ensuring compliance with safety, health, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and DOT inspections; follow up on repairs for all vehicle classes.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair electrical, brake, cooling, engine, transmission, clutch, differential, hydraulic, and electronic systems.
- Conduct road tests, use handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other diagnostic equipment to identify malfunctions.
- Maintain inventory of parts and equipment; perform periodic reconciliation.
- Operate company‑issued service truck; conduct safety checks, pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Document work on Repair Orders via company iOS device and TRAIT application; upload pictures and provide accurate DOT forms.
- Lead jobsites, providing customer interaction and communication; mentor and train Mobile Technicians I/II/Sr.
- Assist Mobile Tech Manager with quality control inspections and perform managerial duties when needed.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work, and maintain high productivity within standard repair times.
- High School Diploma or GED with 7 years of experience (alternative: any degree/certification beyond HS with 5 years of experience, or 9 years in related field).
- Valid driver’s license and current state‑of‑residence license; maintain Driver Qualification File.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Successful completion of DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical; current DOT medical card with more than four months validity acceptable.
- ASE T8 (PMI)

- ASE T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, A8, L1, L2
Demonstrates sound judgment and problem‑solving skills; lifts, bends, climbs, and performs repetitive tasks for prolonged periods; excellent communication and two‑way interaction with clients and teammates; accurately determines tool selection and operational distance; uses logic and reasoning to evaluate solutions.
