Material Recovery Facility Maintenance Mechanic

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Material Recovery Facility Maintenance Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair sorting, baling, and conveyor equipment at our MRF. In this safety-focused, team-based role, you'll perform preventive maintenance, diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues, and minimize downtime to keep recycling operations running reliably. Working in our Engineering, Maintenance & Asset Management department, you'll use your hands-on skills to support sustainable waste and recycling solutions for the NY/NJ region while building a stable career with growth, training, and competitive benefits.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair MRF conveyors, balers, sorters, and related equipment
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues
• Safely operate tools and equipment in compliance with company and OSHA standards
• Document work orders, parts usage, and maintenance activities accurately
• Collaborate with operations and engineering to prioritize repairs and projects
• Support continuous improvement of equipment reliability and facility uptime
• Participate in safety meetings, trainings, and lockout/tagout procedures
