Job PurposeThe Social Worker at the Housing Authority of the City of Newark will provide essential support and guidance to residents, helping them navigate social services and improve their overall quality of life. The role involves advocating for residents' needs, facilitating access to resources, and promoting community well-being through tailored interventions and support programs.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive assessments of residents' social, emotional, and economic needs to develop personalized support plans.
- Collaborate with community organizations and service providers to connect residents with appropriate resources and services.
- Advocate for residents' rights and needs within the Housing Authority and the broader community.
- Facilitate workshops and educational programs aimed at enhancing residents' life skills and self-sufficiency.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of support plans, adjusting strategies as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all interactions and interventions with residents.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to residents facing urgent challenges or emergencies.
- Work collaboratively with other Housing Authority staff to ensure a holistic approach to resident support and community development.
Required
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Required Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in social work, preferably within a community service or housing authority setting. Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations, including low-income families, individuals with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. Proven track record of case management, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of client needs. Required
Skills and Abilities:
Strong understanding of social work principles, ethics, and practices, with the ability to apply them in a housing authority context. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with clients, colleagues, and community partners. Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously, with strong organizational and time management skills. Proficiency in using case management software and other relevant computer applications.
Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals and families in need. Knowledge of local, state, and federal resources available for housing, healthcare, and social services.
