Pay Rate: $65–$75/hour (W2 only)
A major financial firm is hiring multiple Senior Java Developers for contract-to-hire roles based in Newark, NJ
. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced developers who have strong expertise in both legacy and modern Java technologies, with hands-on experience in modernization and migration projects.
As a Senior Java Developer
, you will lead efforts to modernize critical enterprise applications by migrating legacy Java systems to modern frameworks. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, provide technical leadership, and play a key role in integrating AI-assisted development tools like Claude to streamline the development process.
- Lead the migration of legacy Java applications to modern frameworks
- Develop, maintain, and optimize applications using both old (EJB) and modern (Spring Boot) Java frameworks
- Collaborate with engineering, architecture, and QA teams to deliver scalable solutions
- Integrate and apply AI-assisted development tools (Claude) into the software lifecycle
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members
- Ensure best practices in code quality, performance, security, and maintainability
- 15+ years of Java development experience across legacy and modern environments
- Expertise in Java modernization/migration projects
- Strong hands-on experience with Java frameworks (EJB, Spring Boot)
- Familiarity with both old web servers (e.g., Web Sphere) and modern platforms (e.g., AWS ECS, Kubernetes)
- Experience with Database interaction (JDBC, MySQL)
- Service-oriented architecture (SOA) patterns
- Security best practices (Dev Sec Ops , SSL, JWT, OAuth 2.0, SAML 2.0)
- Dev Ops tools (Jenkins, Git Hub, Bitbucket)
- SDLC practices
, including testing, monitoring, and logging - Experience with AI development tools
, particularly Claude AI - Strong debugging, optimization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team with minimal supervision
- Experience in the insurance industry
- Portfolio or Git Hub showcasing Java modernization projects
- Willingness to participate in live coding interviews
