Your Team & Role

As a Lead Software Engineer on the Retirement Strategies Technology team
, you will be at the epicenter of our application modernization. You’ll help convert legacy applications into strategic, cutting-edge solutions. You’ll join a cross-functional Agile team where collaboration is key to delivering robust solutions that drive business impact.

What You Can Expect on a Typical Day
  • Build applications ensuring that the code follows latest coding practices and industry standards, using modern design patterns and architectural principles; remove technical impediments
  • Develop high quality, well documented and efficient code adhering to Prudential standards
  • Collaborate with product owners to understand needs and define feature stories; work with tech leads to define technical design and other team members to understand the system end-to-end and deliver robust solutions with business impact
  • Write unit, integration, and functional automation tests; research problems discovered by QA or product support and develop solutions
  • Bring a strong understanding of relevant and emerging technologies, provide input and coach team members, and embed learning and innovation in day-to-day work
  • Work on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of intangible variables
  • Use programming languages including but not limited to Python, Java, or JavaScript and frameworks such as React, Spring Boot, Node.js
The Skills & Expertise You Bring
  • Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Ability to coach others with minimal guidance and effectively leverage diverse ideas, experiences, thoughts and perspectives
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Knowledge of business concepts, tools and processes needed for making sound decisions in the company’s business context
  • Ability to learn new skills continuously through self-initiative and tackling challenges
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and collaboration skills
  • Advanced experience with several of the following areas:
    • Programming

      Languages:

      React JS, Java (Spring Boot), JavaScript; distributed systems, OOP, design patterns
    • Frameworks:
      Spring Boot, React, Node.js (Full/MERN/MEAN)
    • Data Store:
      No

      SQL and relational databases (e.g., Mongo

      DB, Aurora Postgre

      SQL, Dynamo

      DB)
    • Data Streaming: SQS, Kinesis
    • APIs: REST, SOA, API gateway technologies (e.g., Kong)
    • Testing: unit, integration, end-to-end testing concepts and tooling
    • Automated testing approaches (e.g., RAFT)
    • Accessibility awareness
    • Security: secure coding, web app security, Dev Sec Ops ; authentication/authorization, encryption, JWT, SSL, SAML 2.0, OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0
    • Dev Ops Tools & Practices:
      Git, CI/CD (Git Hub, Bitbucket, Subversion; Jenkins)
    • SDLC:
      Monitoring and logging techniques
    • AWS Core Services:
      Lambda, Dynamo

      DB, KMS, Secrets Manager, SNS, Cloud Watch, S3, IAM, Aurora
    • AWS IaaC: infrastructure as code development, batch processing in AWS
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • AWS Development
    • Architecture Patterns
    • Design Thinking
    • Financial/insurance industry experience is a plus
    • Awareness of Agentic AI Platforms is a plus
