Position Summary

The Radiographer is responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes and for performing radiographic procedures at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Radiography integrates scientific knowledge, technical competence, and patient interaction skills to provide safe and accurate procedures with the highest regard for all aspects of patient care. A Radiographer recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure, demonstrates an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology, and maintains a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique.

They must possess, apply, and maintain knowledge of radiation protection and safety, independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of radiographic procedures, and document activities related to medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and policy. Radiographers are the primary liaison between patients, licensed practitioners, and other members of the support team, remain sensitive to patient needs through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring, and patient care skills, participate in quality improvement processes, and continually assess their professional performance.

They engage in continuing education to enhance patient care, public education, knowledge and technical competence.

Responsibilities
  • Provide optimal patient care.
  • Receive, relay, and document verbal, written and electronic orders in the patient’s medical record.
  • Corroborate a patient’s clinical history with procedure and ensure information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
  • Assume responsibility for patient needs during procedures.
  • Prepare patients for procedures.
  • Apply principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
  • Optimize technical exposure factors in accordance with the principles of ALARA.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality and ensure proper identification is recorded.
  • Identify and respond to emergency situations.
  • Provide education.
  • Educate and monitor students and other health care providers.
  • Perform ongoing quality assurance activities.
  • Apply the principles of patient safety during all aspects of patient care.
  • Assist or complete POCT tasks, as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and report equipment malfunctions.
  • Perform daily quality control as required.
  • Attend department meetings or watch videotape and complete post‑test.
Requirements
  • Maintain certification by ARRT.
  • Possess a valid license issued by ODH.
  • Maintain CPR certification.
  • LMHS is accredited by DNV and TJC, and as such, may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.
