Position Overview

URGENT CARE – DOWNTOWN – Licensed Practical Nurse

Position Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician, the LPN provides nursing care requiring the application of basic knowledge of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences. The LPN assists RNs and physicians in assessment, contributes information in planning and evaluating quality patient care, considers emotional, social, and physical needs, provides direct technical nursing care, and informs RN or physicians of patient symptoms, reactions, and progress.

Responsibilities
  • Assists Physicians and RNs in patient assessment and contributes information in planning and evaluating quality patient care, including consideration of emotional, social, and physical needs.
  • Administers medications ordered by a licensed provider after completion of the 90‑hour Pharmacology Course and passing the National Exam, practicing the Five Rights of safe medication administration.
  • Responds to emergency situations promptly, precisely, and professionally.
  • Maintains excellence in clinical competency and nursing skills through continuing education.
  • Informs Physician or RN of patient symptoms, reactions, progress, and other information pertaining to patient care, documenting in the medical record (paper and electronic) per policies and procedures.
  • Participates in ongoing quality improvement programs and responds to results obtained from data collection.
  • Presents a positive professional appearance and attitude, demonstrating excellent guest relation skills, interpersonal skills, and team values within the Professional Corporation, Health Systems, and community.
  • Recognizes and respects Patient Rights.
  • Observes and maintains patient, staff, and corporate confidentiality per policies and procedures.
  • Manages and logs lab culture results, prepares chart for physician reconciliation, and makes follow‑up calls as appropriate.
  • Manages and logs radiology results, prepares chart for physician reconciliation.
  • Calls report to outside facilities when needed.
  • Answers call lights promptly and with courtesy.
  • Sets up suture trays using aseptic technique.
  • Performs joint aspiration.
  • Applies splints, wraps, slings, swaths, and cervical collars.
  • Assists with crutches.
  • Delivers wound dressings.
  • Assists with cardioversions, defibrillations, and pacemakers.
  • Understands how to give tetanus, flu, and pneumonia shots.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
Requirements
  • Read, write, and follow verbal or written instructions.
  • Maintain current LPN licensure for Ohio.
  • Operate within the scope of practice of nursing for an LPN as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
  • BLS certification (mandatory).
  • Complete orientation to acquire familiarity with LMHS policies, nursing procedures, and techniques within assigned patient care areas.
  • Respond efficiently to emergencies (code blue, fire, weather, disaster).
  • Possess basic analytical ability to perform assigned tasks and interpret data in uncomplicated situations.
  • Provide care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients under supervision of a licensed physician, NP, and/or RN.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to perform phlebotomy, EKG, vital signs, medication administration by oral, nebulizer, IM, SQ routes for children and adults, ear lavage, monofilament, glucometer, occult blood, visual and auditory acuity, strep screen, urinalysis, urine pregnancy, specimen collection, and preparation as applicable.
  • Proficiently operate office machines, including personal computer, office computer systems (IDX, EMR, Meditech), fax, telephone, and photocopier.
  • Maintain proficiency in 12‑lead ECG testing.
  • Maintain proficiency in phlebotomy.
  • Maintain proficiency with glucometer.
  • Maintain annual Ortho‑Glass competency.
  • Promote a culture of safety and proactively implement initiatives.
  • Maintain IBEX competency.
  • IV Certification.
