Overview

George Fox University's Finance Department seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to serve as a General Ledger Accountant.

Responsibilities
  • Recording daily, weekly, or monthly transactions into the system of record to maintain financial accuracy.
  • Monitoring General Ledger activity to identify and resolve errors or discrepancies.
  • Reviewing existing processes to identify opportunities for increased efficiency, functionality, and documentation.
  • Performing monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of receivables, payables, and other required accounts.
  • Assisting in preparations for the annual audit, required 990 tax reporting, and other reporting requirements of the University.
  • Cross training to provide backup in other areas within the department.
  • Completing special projects and periodic reporting as requested to support the evolving needs of the university.
  • Other duties assigned to ensure continuous improvement in finance operations.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with employees, students, and the public.
  • Behaving as a Christian role model to students.
  • Working cross culturally with respect, appreciation, and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Day in the Life

This position involves communicating with a wide variety of stakeholders, posting journals, problem-solving, and occasionally working on special projects or reporting that occurs periodically during the year.

Qualifications
  • Two or more years of accounting or finance experience; preference for an accounting-related education.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong teamwork, detail orientation, organizational skills, and initiative.
  • Aptitude and interest in learning technology.
  • Integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Effective communication in English, both verbal and written.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship.
  • Commitment to the University’s Theology of Racial and Ethnic Diversity.
  • Desire to work with a diverse community of students and employees.
  • Personal commitment to Jesus Christ and alignment with the Community Lifestyle Statement and Statement of Faith.
  • Any additional education in accounting or related fields.
Preferences
  • Additional education in accounting or related fields.
  • Experience with People Soft, Fund/Not-for-Profit, Higher Education Fund Accounting, or Concur.
