Assistant Professor of English – Creative Writing (Open Genre)

. This full‑time, tenure‑track position begins in Fall 2026.

About the Job

Applicants should hold a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) and demonstrate excellence as artist‑scholars and undergraduate teachers. Faculty will teach creative writing courses (fiction, narrative nonfiction, screenwriting, professional writing), core composition, and upper‑division courses related to their specialization.

Job Responsibilities
  • Teach a 4/4 load (four courses per semester).
  • Maintain an active and productive agenda of scholarship and/or creative work that results in peer‑reviewed publications, professional presentations, or publicly available creative works.
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including student advising, curriculum development, and committee work.
  • Mentor students interested in careers in writing, publishing, and the creative industries.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, reflecting teamwork, respect, and customer service.
  • Model Christian service through words, actions, and lifestyle.
  • Work cross‑culturally with respect, appreciation, and humility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. or MFA) in English, Creative Writing, Rhetoric and Composition, or a closely related field (ABD candidates considered).
  • Expertise in creative composition, storytelling methodologies, and popular literature.
  • Experience writing in and navigating public‑facing markets (journalism, trade publishing, media, professional communication, digital content).
  • Evidence of effective undergraduate teaching.
  • Commitment to the University's Theology of Racial and Ethnic Diversity.
  • Desire to work with a diverse community of students and employees.
  • Personal commitment to Jesus Christ and active Christian testimony in a church community.
Preferred Attributes
  • Experience directing students' creative projects or advising work that led to publication.
  • Background in Old English, Medieval British Literature, epic literature, or historical fantasy.
  • Record of interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Administrative or entrepreneurial experience.
Salary and Rank

Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated; significant teaching experience may be considered for Associate Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions. Salary range: $53,793 – $68,316 per year.
