Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY:
Provide targeted reading instruction to migrant, Title I-A, and LEP students to support literacy growth and achievement. Maintain a positive and structured learning environment. Administer and analyze standardized pre- and post-assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction aligned with grade-level standards. Utilize GLAD and/or ELD instructional strategies with support from colleagues and program leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of: Specific curriculum content for reading.
Skilled in: Lesson plan development, implementation of learning activities, behavior management, assessment, and teaching to individual student skill levels.
Ability to: (1) Design or adopt curriculum and assessment tools for use with LEP and migrant students; (2) demonstrated ability in classroom organization and behavior management; (3) understand social and cultural issues affecting migrant students and their families; (4) communicate orally and in writing; (5) build relationships with students, parents, and staff; and (6) train and assist classroom teachers in reading instructional techniques.
Understanding of: Cultural and social issues affecting diverse students and their families, and students and families experiencing poverty.
Experience: Experience teaching migrant, Title IA, and Title III students. Preference given to bilingual candidates. Technology skills and GLAD and/or other sheltered instruction training. Bilingual/Spanish preferred.
Education: Completion of a higher education Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in education/teaching with a Reading Endorsement.
Certification
Required:
A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with K-5 and ESOL endorsements.
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Assist in the planning of a program of reading for students that meets the learning needs and abilities of students.
- Employ selected instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the District Reading initiative.
- Work with classroom teachers to support reading instruction and promote effective reading instructional techniques in the classroom.
- Act as a resource person in reading for classroom teachers.
- Develop and maintain regular and effective communications with students, parents, staff, administration, and the community.
- Assist in the assessment of student interests, abilities, and learning styles.
- Assist the district in assessment of learner outcomes on a regular cycle to determine individual student progress and program effectiveness and maintain such records as required.
- Promote cooperative teaching experiences within the regular classroom.
- Assist in the development of and provide workshops, inservice training and/or modeling of effective teaching techniques and activities that promote reading.
- Act as an advocate for students experiencing difficulty in learning to read.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Language
Skills:
Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, lesson plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.
Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written, or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.
