Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Assist District staff in providing educational programs for migrant children to facilitate skill acquisition in academics, language, social, self‑help, and motor areas. Maintain educational and attendance records, provide liaison services with parents, and support the personal needs of the children served. Assist with recruitment of migrant students in Yamhill County.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of: pre‑K‑8 curriculum; understanding of the experiences, working and living conditions, language and culture of the migrant society. Skilled in: basic computer programs (word processing and spreadsheets). Ability to: maintain accurate records; represent the program to the migrant students and parents; advocate for the student in the home and school settings; work with a diverse population of students and parents.

Flexible and willing to do a variety of jobs to meet deadlines and complete all required training. Fluency in Spanish and excellent communication skills with speakers of both English and Spanish preferred.

Experience: Experience with migrant students.

Education: High School diploma or GED; prefer some college coursework.

Certification

Required:

Valid Oregon Driver’s License and automobile insurance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Work with teachers, principals, students, and patrons to support student learning in the classroom.
  • Translate district documents, letters, and instructional needs to parents, students, and patrons of the Newberg School District.
  • Provide interpreter services for staff, students and families.
  • Collect data to be recorded in migrant student profiles and Oregon Migrant Student Information System (OMSIS).
  • Maintain confidentiality about students and programs.
  • Collect and maintain all necessary student and program data as required by Migrant Education Student Service Center (MESC).
  • Work in partnership with ELL staff to enhance communication and maximize services to students and families.
  • Provide mediation, problem solving and conflict resolution to individuals and small groups when necessary.
  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Language

Skills:

Ability to read English and Spanish and comprehend curriculum materials through grade 12. Ability to write clear and concise communications in English and Spanish.

Mathematical

Skills:

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, bend or twist at the neck and trunk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and use hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.

Work Environment: Works in a classroom environment in close proximity to students and other adults. May encounter students with emotional problems or hostile attitudes. May be required to use the telephone and operate a computer.

Terms of Employment: Summer School July 1, 2026 – August 1, 2026.

Location:

Classified, Temporary position at Edwards Elementary Campus.

Benefits: 7 hours per day, when school is in session. Salary Range: TBD (2026‑27 Classified Wage Schedule $19.11–$24.31 per hour). Employment contingent on grant funding. Newberg School District pays 6% PERS contribution and provides insurance and benefits as described.
